Bridge to Living

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC), and its strategic development partner Queensberry, have brought forward a full planning application for a residential-led development on Bridge Street named ‘Bridge to Living’. Following a successful bid to the Future High Streets Fund, Bridge to Living reimagines an underused part of the town centre as an attractive place to live and develop new retail units along Bridge Street.

The site sits to the north of George Elliot Memorial Gardens and to the south of Bridge Street. A riverside pathway leading from Bridge Street will bound the site and lead to the park, opening the town centre to open green space.

The pre-application consultation for this project has closed. You can have your say on the final submitted designs by visiting Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s planning portal here. The application number is 038762 and the consultation will close on 26th April.

04/04/22 - Plans for Bridge to Living project refined following feedback

Thank you for responding to the public consultation detailing the proposals for ‘Bridge to Living’, a residential-led full planning application on Bridge Street, Nuneaton as part of the Transforming Nuneaton Programme. The design team have considered your feedback before submitting final plans to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for determination. I’d like to take the opportunity to update you on the scheme and how it has changed since you provided your thoughts.

After discussions with the Environment Agency and a review of community feedback, the apartment block has been removed from the plans and the public realm has been altered to better mitigate against flooding. Additionally, some residential components have been relocated on the site to areas with lower risks of flooding.

The land use required to adequately mitigate the flood risk has resulted in an overall reduction of residential units in the scheme and the land which would have been available for residential use following the demolition of the job centre, will now be landscaped for extra public use. This preserves the new links the scheme creates between George Eliot Memorial Gardens and Bridge Street, which proved popular in the consultation feedback we received.
